Tips for Non-Profits: Start to Get Noticed

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

Digital Marketing can be scary for the average non-profit group. Organizations such as Heart and Stroke, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Red Cross, and the Cancer Society all have large budgets for digital marketing and advertisements. However, there are so many smaller non-profits and not-for-profits that run solely on volunteers and do not have the same tech savvy support.

Many non-profits are struggling to recruit the desperately needed tech savvy members into their ranks. If your organization is in this position, you're going to be ok. I'll provide you with some useful tips that are tried & true, so that you and your non-profit organization can continue to help your community.

Tips

1.) Most people are familiar with FaceBook.

They are a user friendly platform where photo's, videos, and live feeds can be easily posted. If your group does not have a website, then FaceBook is your best option. They even offer a FaceBook messenger, which is a great tools for creating groups chats and video chats with your members so that everyone can keep up to date.

2.) Next comes Instagram.

They are connected to FaceBook and can be easily linked together so that when you post on one, it will automatically post on the other for you. Known for their range of filters and pretty pictures, use it for exactly that. Every event you do, take photos during setup, during the event, of the band, the food, the fun, and post post post. There are template features that will help you create beautiful, eye catching, collage videos that can be posted to your Instagram story.

3.) Get yourself a student!!

High school, elementary, college, whatever. At least one of your members has a child or grandchild that could help setup your FaceBook and Instagram accounts for you. Yes, they may giggle about it, but that's ok, you're learning something new.

If you're still stuck, then look to the local high schools and colleges. Many students have a required amount of volunteer hours that are needed to graduate. Speak to the school councilor or Principal, explaining the help your need.

4.) Reach out to an expert.

There are a few professionals in the digital market field that recognize and understand the need for the smaller run non-profits and they are willing to help them out. Not all services will be free, but they will donate their time to teach the basics of FaceBook and Instagram.
